Using the New Library!

Today year 1 have had the chance to use and explore the new library. They really enjoyed finding new books and favourite books. They loved the bean bags and comfy chairs.

Ice is nice

Today the reception class found some ice on the top of the water in the water box. All the children had a chance to touch the ice and see how it felt. The ice felt cold, wet and slippery. "It looks like glass for windows." said one of the children. Another child explained that we get ice when it is really cold and it melts into water when it gets hot.

Y2 Talking for Writing - Jesus and the fishermen

There was lots of great talking in Year 2 this morning preparing for a story write. I was really impressed with how children were using story maps to share their ideas. The stories are about Jesus helping the fishermen.

The first sentences they wrote together were - 'One dark night Peter, Thomas, John and James met three friends. Peter said, "I'm going fishing. Do you want to come with me?"

Great work Year 2!

Probotic

Today, Y5P worked with the 'Probots'. They had to work out how many centimeters the probot would travel and how many degrees it would have to turn to make various shapes. they recorded the shapes by putting a pen into a hole on the probot. The shapes included: Octagons, squares and dodecagons. It was fun and easy when you knew how to do it.

Class Mass

Yesterday Y3M held a class Mass in their classroom. It was a beautiful celebration of the Mass led by Father Joy. The children were attentive and respectful just as we would expect. They also asked Father Joy all about his vestments and were fascinated to be able to see everything close at hand. Mrs Marsh, who was with them, was very proud of their attitude and participation.

Puppet Show with a bit extra!

This morning Reception and Year 1 classes were entertained by Mr Brown, a puppeteer. Year 4/5J were there too, watching the performance and observing how the infants enjoyed the show. Lots of fun and laughter was had by all the children. They particularly enjoyed joining in with Farmer Giles, trying to keep control of Daisy the cow! These pictures show how much the infants became involved.

After the infants had gone back to class, Mr Brown showed Y4/5J how a puppet show works. He also showed us lots of different types of puppets, how he made them and how he manipulated them. It was all very interesting. As well as this, Mr Brown has made some different example suggestions for puppets that our class could make later this term. He has left them with us and is looking forward to seeing what we make. This is part of our Funnybones topic in which we are writing plays and devising puppet shows.
It was a fabulous morning with so much for us to learn. Thank you very much PTFA for funding this exciting show.

Funny Bones?

To start their new topic off, Y4/5J have been showing what they already know about the body. I was amazed how many names of bones they knew and also how many knew where the main organs of the body are positioned. However, there were also some very strange bodies which I'm sure Dr Frankenstein would be interested to see! We will look again at the pictures at the end of the topic and compare our knowledge!

Doubling Numbers in Year 1

Today in year 1 children have been learning how to double numbers up to 13! The children have all come back and worked very hard on their first day after a long holiday!
Ellie explained that if you want to double a number you have to add the same number to it so if you want to double 5 you add 5 to it to make 10.

A great start to the term and the new year. Well done year 1!
