A few years ago, myself and a few other G&T coordinators from across Bristol produced a booklet as a source of guidance for teachers. It was intended to be used by them to give parents ideas about how to work with their children at home to further promote and support their abilities and interests. I thought it would be useful to show this again and place it on the school blog, particularly now with it being the summer holidays. Options are available to increase the size of the booklet or print.


How to Support Your Interested

Goodbye

On Friday we said goodbye to those leaving our school. We said thank you and goodbye to Miss Wright, Mrs Gossan and Bike it Ben. We wish them all the best in the future.

Today year 4 treated the school and parents to a mexcellent assembly showing all the wonderful work the have completed in their topic on Mexico. It was great to see all they had done. They even finished off the assembly with a Mexican dance.

Musical Garden

In our topic this term we have learnt how sound is made, how the vibrations travel and how to make high and low sounds. Today we presented our outdoor musical instruments to the Reception class. We taught them how to play our instruments. We were proud how they turned out and hope they like them.

Day of the dead art

Y4C have produced some 'Day of the dead' art. We looked at existing day of the dead art and found out about sugar skulls. Sugar skulls are colourful candy sweets given as gifts at the festival. We decided to decorate paper versions of these sugar skulls.

The day of the dead

Y4C have been looking at the Mexican celebration - The day of the dead, as part of their Mexcellent project.

It is a three day festival during which people remember loved ones who have died. It starts on October 31st to the 2nd November (The same time as Halloween, All saints and All souls day). Day of the dead is a time of happiness not of tears and sadness. By Sydney They celebrate it by having festivals, listening to music and having meals with family and friends. By Vivian

The last day is spent at the cemetery. Families picnic on the favourite foods of those who have died. They decorate tomb stones with flowers and candles. In the evening candles are lit and prayers are said. By Nuala

Mexican cooking

Yesterday Y4C had great fun cooking and eating Mexican food. We made Mexican Salsa, Guacamole and chili in a tortilla wrap.

Beatboxer

Today in assembly Mr Sherwin shared a website where the user can selecting different beatboxing sounds and layer them up. The result when the sounds are layered up can be a very pleasing song. If you would like to have a go at making your own or just want to hear the sounds so you can practice your beatboxing then click here.

Oliver

Today Year 6 gave a brilliant performance of Oliver to the school. Y6B have been studying the classics this term with the showpiece being this amazing musical. We were treated to fantastic acting and beautiful singing. Well done and good luck with the rest of your performances!

Word Art

In Y45, as part of an RE lesson, the children have been writing adverts about the word of Christ. The children then used a web program, tagxedo to make their advert into a picture made of words. They produced some wonderful pictures.
We decided to make a picture out of the words from this blog. Here is the final result:

Mayan maths

Y4C have looking at the Mayan number system and undertook some Mayan maths as part of their Mexcellent project. The Mayan mathematics system was way ahead of its time. They used a symbol for zero, a dot to represent one and a bar to represent 5.

We even went on to undertake some Mayan multiplication!

Aztec writing

Y4C have been studying Aztec writing. The Aztecs did not use letters to write with, they used small pictures called glyphs instead of words. They would joined a few glyphs together to make a sentence. Sometimes they would tell a whole story in one complicated picture. We spent some time trying to interpret the writing from given clues and then tried to create some Aztec writing of our own.

Y4C have been busy designing and making Aztec masks as part of their Mexcellent project. The children produced some stunning designs.

Noah's Ark

What a great day! We have been marching around the zoo, getting very close to lots of animals and finding out where they are from. We even fed the lambs their lunch!

A trip to Noah's Ark

Reception and Year 2 are very excited this morning because they are going on a school trip to Noah's Ark Zoo. We are currently on the bus and the children are starting to sing 'The wheels on the bus'. Hopefully it won't rain.

Today some children went around the school interviewing other children. They found out more about what has been happening during the science day.
