Monday evening - the end

After cycling nearly 250 miles we have arrived at our destination - at a campsite on the most northern point near Colwyn Bay. After a horrible wet stat to the day the sun came out and we had great weather all day.

Monday morning

We are starting our ride soon but conditions are poor. Regular very heavy showers. There is a strong wind which thankfully will be behind us. Last Wednesday in school seems a long time ago.

Sunday evening

More showers but sausages and burgers on fire. Last day tomorrow - cycling through Snowdonia.

Sunday late afternoon

After dodging horrendous showers the sun came out and we cycled to Barmouth. A lovely ride. We then cycled up to the coast to our campsite. Amazingly we ended the ride dry and not feeling too tired.

Sunday lunchtime

All soaked - just climbed massive hill - two of us have had have got punctures - support van came to rescue! Now cooking pasta for lunch and then off to Barmouth and up the coast.

Sunday afternoon

We are dodging horrendous showers - currently hiding in an archway in a lovely town called Dolgellau.. The weather is awful!

Sunday morning

Some sun this morning but thunder forecast for later... Off on our ride now. Leaving from Llanidloes.

Cycled 62 miles today with the last 30 in the rain. Feeling tired and sore but spirits are good. We are sat outside van undercover with a fire, trying to dry out very wet clothes for tomorrow. Tomorrow we will be cycling across to the welsh coast moving towards Snowdonia.

Saturday lunchtime

In Builth Wells in mid Wales. Having cycled 30 miles today and feeling tired. 32 miles to go to our campsite. I will post some pictures when I can. Weather is good so far although thunder storms predicted for tomorrow.

Saturday morning

At gospel pass - just climbed 8 miles - now down hill and flat for 20 - 60 yesterday

We are just packing last minute provisions and will be leaving by 9.30. I will do my best to publish photos along the way although it may be difficult at times, due to poor telephone/data reception. I hope you are all enjoying the star of your summer holidays.

Nelson Mandela's birthday - Mandela Day

Today is Nelson Mandela's 95th birthday -Mandela day.  In Y5C we studied the life and artwork of Nelson Mandela. As well as being a great leader and President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela was a talented artist. Much of his artwork was during his 27 years in prison on Robben Island. Mandela was arrested for his fight against apartheid.

Below are some studies we made of Mandela's artwork.

The Church by Alfie

 The lighthouse by Luke

 The Cell by David

The window by Bethany

We looked at the famous hand print of Nelson Mandela. Few have left such an imprint on the international stage as Nelson Mandela. It is therefore fitting that the extraordinary imprint of his right hand should so closely resemble the shape of the continent of Africa.
