Polish Easter Egg Competition

For this competition children have been asked to decorate their own egg in a traditional Polish way. Photographs of these eggs are on the school blog. Children can decorate their eggs either with multi-coloured pens of paints or through the traditional way of boiling the egg with red onion, which colour the shell a browny red, and scratching a design on the egg. The competition costs 50p to enter and the closing date is Tuesday 29th March. All proceeds go to the PTFA fund and the winners and prizes will be announced in the Polish Easter Day assembly on the 30th March. Polish Easter Day will include a special assembly in the morning and Polish refreshments at the end of the school day.

On Friday Children from Year 4 & Year 5 went to an interactive science exhibition called 'Experience Changing Perspectives'. Here we saw exhibits on microscopic cells to robots of the future. We also got to see a specially commissioned aerial circus performance that explored how different parts of the body are involved with stressful physical activity.

Thrilling Writers!

My class has been exploring what makes a good story. We have been experimenting with writing the openings and build-ups to create suspense and draw the reader in. I have discovered some budding thriller writers among the children. Here are a few to give a flavour:

Amy was walking from the club house. It was dark and a fox was running across the road. She heard a footstep behind her. She started running, running faster. The footstep started to run faster too. Amy was worried, she seriously wanted to go home. She was shivering. The cold wind was going into her face. She could see her house light…. Something was staring out!
by Rungkan

Crystal was slowly walking down the old, rusty steps. Were they safe? She was shaking with fear. Someone, or something, was behind her. But what? She continued but this time she ran. She got to the bottom and heard birds whistling. She was right at the edge of the deep wide river. Crystal was terrified she would fall in, when a bike shot past. She knew that this was her grave!
by Evie

Kameron was walking from the club. He heard footsteps. He thought it was him but the footsteps were faster. Every second Kameron was shivering. He stopped walking and turned around cautiously. There was a shadow camouflaged into the dark side of the wall. The wind started to blow harder and harder. Kameron turned back around but the thing was in front of him. Suddenly it pulled out a black bag, put it over Kameron and he was gone!...

Sophie was melting from the head in her room. She went to open her window but as soon as she pulled the curtain, a big bang, as loud as thunder, shot from side to side.

Alice in Wonderland

Yesterday, Y6 had a once in a lifetime experience of seeing the World Premiere Ballet 'Alice in Wonderland' at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London. The production was outstanding and thoroughly enjoyed by all. The dancing, costumes, special effects, scenery and so on were fantastic.
The children were also lucky enough to see some of the 'sights', such as Big Ben, Houses of Parliament, Downing Street, Westminster Abbey, Trafalgar Square, and to Cory's delight 'Chelsea's training ground'!
The children's behaviour, both on the coach and at the Opera House, was impeccable. To quote the coach drive "The children were absolutely brilliant, a pleasure to have on my coach.'

Y5P’s Class Trip to BMA

During the topic of cool vibrations, Y5P have been visiting Bristol MET Academy. We were split into groups and this is what we did.

Resistant Materials

In the Resistant Materials department (DT) we made instruments. Some children made a xylophone and others made a shaker using bells on a wooden frame. We made them using wood and screws.

We were able to use saws, bench hooks and drilling machines. We had to wear big goggles, which made us look really weird.

P.E. Workshop

In this workshop we played uni-hock and then did street dance.

During hockey, We learnt how to dribble, pass and shoot. We used these skills in relay races. When we had perfected our skills we played a small game of hockey.

Moving on from this, we had a street dance session. We learnt a routine and played a game called ‘Blackout’. In this, we turned off the lights and pulled around a black curtain. This made the room pitch black. We were screaming and shouting. We had to find each other through sound, just by listening.

Ash Wednesday

Today we into the hall for Ash Wednesday Service. We thought about problems we had had. It was a time to pray to God to forgive us our sins. Ash Wednesday is the beginning of Lent. We sang 'Our Servant King' and then Mr Condon and Mrs Joseph put ash on everyone's forehead. Whilst they did this they said 'Be good and follow Jesus.' The holy ash was made form burnt palms from last year's palm Sunday.

Zoetrope

Y4C have been looking at early animation, with the children building Zoetropes. Groups also constructed an electrical circuit with a motor to help turn their Zoetrope.

Celebrating Amazing Attendance

This morning in celebration assembly, we celebrated that an amazing 76 children have achieved 98% attendance or above, with 28 children achieving 100% attendance. All children received a prize and the 100% children will be joining myself drinks and cakes next Wednesday afternoon. I am very proud that attendance is improving and can't wait for a nice slice of cake.

It was also really good to see that only 1 child was late to school this morning on the Forest Road entrance, where I was welcoming parents and children in to school.
