Haunted house stories

Y5C have been writing Haunted house stories to coincide with their 'no place like home' topic. The class produced some fantastic descriptions.  Below are some samples.

The wind was a wolf. It howled and howled until I thought it would blow down the bus stop roof, where I had been for nigh on an hour.  Finally a gust of driving rain made up my mind.  “Come on!” I shouted.  Meanwhile Trevor shivered and snivelled and the full moon lit up his creased face.

“No way!” he shouted “I’m staying here and waiting for our bus”. I started to move away from him.

“Hey wait for me. I don’t want to be alone!” he cried.

As I waited for him to catch up, out of the corner of my eye, I saw a wreck of a house. Tiles had ripped off revealing the rotten planks like skeleton beneath flesh.  Ragged bits of yellow tape wrapped around the gate and two jet black demon statues seemed to move where I moved. Should I enter? I thought.

As I walked quickly home with my ten year old brother, we ate the sweets we just bought and talked about the Hunger Games in Minecraft.  When we got to the end of the road it started raining and it gradually got worse and worse.  So we had to take shelter.  The nearest house was an abandoned one; we had no choice but to go in!

I walked in silently. The walls were as rough as sandpaper.  The light kept flickering on and off. “Hello! Is anybody here?” my voice echoed.  I wondered if anyone was living here.  The dark, menacing stairs started to creak.  As quick as a flash, the door opened.  Wind blew in my face. I saw a creepy picture hung up on the rock hard wall. It was a photo of two strange identical twins.  As I took my hand off the banister, it was covered in a thick layer of dust.

The house was a dictionary opened at H – haunted, horror and hideous.  As I tiptoed up the stairs, I could feel the mould on the rough walls which were as if they were coming closer every time I stepped up.  Bravely, I knocked on the door and whimpered “Hello, anyone here?” Nobody answered but the door just opened by itself. I took a deep breath. My heart pounded like a giant hand had knocked every breath out of me.
