ICT - making monster computer games

Y5/6C have been making their own monster computer games in ICT. The children needed to design the type of game, the layout, think about the characters and timings in their games. We enjoyed trying out each other's games. Some were very difficult to complete with many different levels.

About Guru Granth Sahib (the Sikh holy book) - By Jade (who made the model pictured above)

Just before he passed away the tenth Guru, (a Guru is a teacher of the Sikh religion) Gobin Singh chose the Guru Granth Sahib, which is the Sikh holy book, to be the next guru, and their will be no more Gurus. Where ever the Guru Granth Sahib is placed, becomes a Gurdwara (a place of worship for Sikhs).A Gurdwara doesn’t have to be a special building, as long as it contains the Guru Granth Sahib.

They treat the holy book with great respect, as if it were a real person. It is rested on a cloth and three cushions, and it is put to bed in a ceremony. It is also taken out in a ceremony.

Camp 2012

Although we returned a day early due to a sickness bug and expected heavy snow, we had a fantastic time on camp. Here are a few photos showing some of the things we got up to.

The coach is on the Severn Bridge.
The camp group are just past Lydney and will be at Chepstow in about 10 minutes. They will probably be arriving a bit later than 6pm.

We still expect the children home from camp at 6pm
Camp 2012

Dear Parents and Carers,

Due to a sickness bug and expected heavy snow in the Forest of Dean, we have decided that the children and staff on camp will be returning to Bristol this evening.

All children are safe and well cared for, although some have been suffering from a tummy upset. Some of these children are feeling better but are tired. Some children are still poorly and area being cared for.

We have arranged for a coach to collect the children from Parkend at 5pm, and we anticipate that the group will return to school by 6pm.

To avoid the risk of further contamination, we request that all children stay at home tomorrow.

PLEASE KEEP AN EYE ON THE SCHOOL BLOG FOR FURTHER UPDATES

Cathedral Choristers Visit

This afternoon Y4J was thrilled to be joined by some of the choristers from Bristol Cathedral School who will be singing with us in the cathedral on February 29th. We sang a couple of our songs to them, they sang to us and we also sang our joint song together. It was really interesting to hear about the work of a chorister and a few brave ones of us even auditioned as probationary choristers. The sound we made altogether was amazing and we look forward to practising hard and being ready for the concert at Bristol Cathedral on Wednesday February 29th at 11.15am (all invited).
Thanks to the choristers and their teachers for coming today.

Monster poems

Y5/6C have been working on Monster poetry.

Monsters! By Rachel

Lots of teeth all like knives,
Spooky ghosts and vampire brides,
Partying in your shed,
Waiting, waiting, under your bed,
Squelching, scratching, screeching, scoffing,
Spluttering, screaming in a coffin,
Ugly fleshy lots of eyes,
Catch one and you'll get a prize

My new pet monster! By Rachel
My new pet monster is quite quiet,
But yesterday he caused a riot,
He ate all the M&Ms,
And stole my mum's favourite gems!

Did you see that monster? By Kamal
Did you see that monster in the swimming pool?
I think he supports Liverpool
Did you see that monster in the park?
It looked like an aardvark
Did you see that monster in the Zoo?
I think he was crying - Boo hoo!
Did you see that monster in the shop?
I think he was buying a lollipop
Did you see the monster in the street?
I couldn't believe his enormous feet
Did you see the monster having something to eat?
I think it was having a special treat
Did you see the monster singing a song?
I hope this doesn't go on too long!
Did you see the monster when he was ill?
I think the doctor gave him a massive pill
Did you see the monster playing football?
I think he looked rather tall
