Sports day awards
Sports day medals and certificates were presented in assembly today. In the team events India came 3rd, Great Britain 2nd and France were 1st. Well done to all who took part and did their best!
Olympic art
Y5/6C have produced
art work inspired by the Olympic rings.
We created paint prints and then put them together to create a class display.
Y5/6C Usain Bolt challenges
Usain Bolt can run the 100m in a world record time of 9.58 seconds. In maths we took this measurement and wondered what we could do in the time Bolt can run the hundred metres (ten seconds). We needed to each undertake a maths challenge and a challenge of our own choice. Some examples of the challenges were:
How many even numbers can you write down in ten seconds?
How many square numbers can you write down in ten seconds?
How many times you can bounce a ball on a cricket bat in ten seconds?
How many times you can bounce a ball on a tennis racket?
How many dominoes can you stand up in ten seconds?
How many times you can bounce a ball in ten seconds?
These results were collected and then displayed as frequency tables and graphs. We had lots of fun undertaking the challenges.

Indian Music
In
music Y5/6C have been lucky enough to have an Olympic storyteller
teaching us Indian music. Dr Joel tells
the story of the Olympics through his music. In his performances he makes
connections between Music, Art, sport and nature. We learnt the tabla and Harmonium. Here are some videos of our performance to
Y5P.

Olympics Haiku
Y4J have been writing our own haiku to celebrate the Olympics. A haiku is a poem that has 17 syllables and three lines which tells a story. Here are just a few. I think they're brilliant:
Horse Jumping
As the timer starts
Horses gallop very fast
One jums but fails.
by Luke
Running
Running fast and swift,
The crowds cheer when you finish.
Here come the medals.
by Muhammad
Fencing
Swords at the ready,
Try to hit your opponent
To gather more points.

St Thomas Assembly
Some year four children performed a lovely assembly about St Thomas this morning. They talked about how St Thomas visited India spreading the word of God.
