Slang through the decades

Y5C have been looking at different slang through the decades as part of their 'Back to the future' project. We were surprised to see several words we use today are actually old slang words. We enjoyed discussing the words and created some new slang words of our own.

Here are some examples:

1950's                                                                       1960's
Boss = Great                                                            Fat = Good or best
Cat = Cool                                                               Jet = To move quickly
Eyeball = To look around                                        Pop = Popular or trendy
 

1970's                                                                      1980's
Ace = Great, really good                                         Brill = Great, wonderful
Awesome = Cool, great                                           Gamer = Video game player
Dig = To understand, to like                                   Sick = Cool

  
1990's                                                                      Words we use today
Blood = Friend                                                        Ping = contact
Crib = House, apartment                                         Dive = rubbish place, run down area
Fresh = Cool, original, nice                                     Epic fail = really bad mistake


Some of our own we created
volcano = hot, boiling
key = clever
toxic = bad, evil
sunk = out of ideas
z-factor = no talent, not good
