Year 5 and 6 have been writing stories about what it must have been like in an air raid during World War Two. Morgan's story really captured the atmosphere. Here's an extract:.

Charlie didn’t know what to do. He couldn’t find his mum or his brother Tom. “Why? Why do I have to go there?” The air raid warden just looked very angry.
“Just do it!” he said sharply. So Charlie did.

Nervously, the boy scampered down to the shelter and shut the door behind him. Charlie thought his heart was going to come out of his chest. Do this; do that; he didn’t know who to listen to. The eight year old boy was all alone. People running around; no one took any notice of poor Charlie. With that, he saw his brother, Tom. “Come on, you lazy thing,” said Tom. “Mum’s been looking for you everywhere.”

Courageously, Charlie walked outside to meet his mother. BANG! “Aww!” said Charlie, “what was that for?”

“That was for not listening to me when I said ‘bombs’,” said his mother.

As Charlie walked into his house, he heard a faint explosion in the distance. Charlie turned round. All around was silence. “Mum! Mum!” There was no reply. He had done it again: lost his mum and brother Tom. “Mum, Mum. Please reply, Mum. I’m scared! MUM!”

What a brilliant piece of writing! Well done, Morgan.
