Caerphilly Castle

On Wednesday 3rd November, Y3M went on a trip to Caerphilly Castle as part of their Knights and Castles topic. They we met by Lord Boudiever de Clare, who showed them round the castle. They went into the Great Hall and dressed up. Some of the children dressed as royalty, others were better off servants who lived in the castle and the others were servants from the villages outside the castle walls (they were the poorest and wore sack cloth!)
The children played the game of hunting the lamb and explored the castle rooms, which were used in a recent episode of the TV programme Merlin.
The children also saw some of the engines of war such as a giant cross bow or ballista, a huge catapault called a mangonel and a small one called a trebuchet.
Some of the children bought swords and other things from the shop. It was a fantastic day despite the rain!

Here's a joke for you-
Q. How does Lord Boudiever de Clare eat his cheese?

A. Carefully (Caerphilly)
