Y5P have been looking at different forms of poetry this week. In particular, they studied The Magic Box, by Kit Wright and then wrote their own versions of the poem, linked to the class topic, 'Deep Seas'. Here are some examples of the children's work.

The Magic Box

In my box I will put the great, shimmering waves, lapping at my hot legs.
The soft, smooth sand running through my toes.

In my box, I will put the blue and yellow tang and the white and orange clown fish.
The scrumptious smell of chips and fish from the open sea.

In my box I will put the finest, blue, cold ocean you have ever seen.
And the spilled ice-cream from a sad boy.

In my box I will put the red, blood-covered tooth from the biggest shark
And the biggest turtle from the Indian Ocean.

In my box I will put the beautiful sunset as the day ends.

The Magic Box

I will put in the box,

The slimy scales of a fish,
A tooth of a deadly Great White Shark
And the smell of yummy cod.

I will put in the box,

The taste of salt tingling on my tongue,
A bottle of clownfish blood and
An eye of a Humpback whale.

I will put in the box,

The sound of a dolphin,
A dogfish shark and
A fin of a blue Tang.

The Magic Box

I will put in my box,
The sound of the ocean's language.
The taste of bitter sweet sea salt.

I will put in my box,
The soft , playful sand.
The smell of the crunchy seaweed.

I will put in my box,
The picture of the families that play with their children.
I will put in my box-
The ocean.

The Magic Box

I will put in my box,
The colours of the wind,
The sun dancing on the water,
The deep, dark secrets of the ocean.

I will put in my box,
The sweet, gentle sound of the waves.
A tooth from a blood- thirsty shark.
The taste of the salty sea.

The Magic Box

In my magic box, I will put
The taste of a salty ocean.
The view of a tropical island
Surrounded by the shimmering sea.

I will put the smell of rum from a pirate ship.
The skeleton of a clown fish
And the face of a goblin shark.

By Eoan.

The Magic Box

I will put in my magic box,
A beautiful dolphin.

I will put in my magic box,
A soft coral and little creatures that live in there.

I will put in my magic box,
The sound of a dolphin splashing in the water
And the smell of a fresh fish.

My Magic Box

In my box I will put the first tooth of a blood-thirsty Sand Tiger Shark
The heart of the largest coral reef.

In my box I will put the golden sea
The tenticle of a jelly fish
And the crown of the Atlantic City.
