Playing old computer games

Y5C have explored early computer games as part of our project  'Space Invaders'.  We found out about the history of early computer games and enjoyed trying them out.  In Literacy we wrote explanations of how to play these games and wrote comments on what they were like.

 Space Invaders
In Space Invaders you shoot moving targets (aliens) to score points.  The aliens shoot back, but you can hide behind a shield, but they eventually break.  There is also a spaceship which goes across the top of the screen quickly, but gives you a score of around 100-250 points.
This game is fun to play and can keep you playing for ages.  I like it when you get a high score, I get really excited.  I think it is different from today because most of the games now have a storyline and this one doesn't.  By Oliver

 Pacman
You are a strange yellow creature who goes around the screen eating white dots, that look like seeds.  While you are doing that four aliens are chasing you.  When the aliens turn blue you can eat them.

 Pong
In Pong you have to move a bar up and down to hit the ball past your opponent.  You get a point by hitting the ball and your opponent missing it.  It's quite fun to play against someone because you have to be really quick about hitting the ball.  It's good to play because it's a test of how fast your brain is.  It is different from today's computer games because it is a simple game and today's games are more complicated.  It's a good game because it doesn't take loads of time to play and it's simple and fun at the same time.  By Alfie

Mrs Petela kindly brought in an old game called Astro Wars which the children have been trying out during recent wet play times.
